Hello, fans of JHelix! My new single “Breathe” is out now on all streaming platforms! This track was a long time in the making, and is a marker for the future sounds of JHelix. I’m composing these days in a much heavier, guitar-driven fashion, and the songs are just pouring out of me. Greetings , fans of JHelix. I have finally take the plunge into content creation! My Youtube channel JHelix Creative will be updated at least once a week with new videos/content for the forseeable future. I plan to loosely have about 3 categories: “Musings” (essentially me just talking, like an artist diary), “Practice” (me practicing material, usually in the studio), and “Studio” or “Production” (maybe a look over my shoulder at how I do things when producing music). This is a new thing for me, and to be honest, I fought it for years but I’ve finally realized that if you don’t adapt to the industry as it changes, you will be left behind, and I’ve worked way too hard to just be lazy and allow that to happen! Fuck Covid.
I’ve been agonizing over the mixes in this album for many months now, and its finally out! I believe this to be my best collective work yet…what do you think? This album (or to be fair, Baby Yellow) is going to usher in somewhat of a new direction for me as an artist. Expect a new level of songwriting sophistication in my productions, as well as lots and lots of guitars. Industrial and Industrial Metal really made a huge impression on me throughout my life, and it’s time to go back to my roots with a vengeance! I hope you like it. Peace.
As messed up as 2020 has been for pretty much the entire world, JHelix cannot complain. So far all 2020 goals are on track except for getting some live gigs in…which is clearly beyond my control at this point. The Baby Yellow video is well on it’s way to 10k views, and is averaging about 100 a day. May not be much for someone like Joe Rogan, but for little old me, it’s pretty damn good! As I sit here typing, I’m previewing the masters of the 7 song LP that’s coming out before the end of 2020….(Hopefully October!)…From the artists perspective, it is my best album for sure and I can’t wait to get started on the next…which is gonna blow your fuckin’ socks right the fuck off your feet…not even kidding..lol. So I’ve never had a blog before, nor really any desire create one…but this is kind of a blog space already, so I’m going to use it for occasional musical diary type entries, for those who are interested in the “extra” details or who happen to be bored and passing by :)
Big things are in the works for this month and 2020 in general! I’m releasing my first music video, filmed completely by yours truly on an Iphone 11pro in 4k mode. Pretty fuckin’ badass little camera if you ask me... especially compared to how shitty camera phones were when they started. Some of the shots were on location in the woods, and in an industrial warehouse…many were in front of a large green screen. It was a lot of hours of work! I filmed for the most part every afternoon/night for 2 weeks getting the footage. I created a storyboard and some visual ideas, then turned everything over to David Goodwin from DavideoPro. I’ve seen some screen previews already and this video is gonna be sick. So, very exited about that, and of course the actual single for which the video is being made is coming out January 1st. I’m more than 1/2 done with a follow up album already, set to come out later in 2020…and let me tell you, it’s intense.
Roughly around the “Vessel” album and “Never Enough” single, I reached another level of songwriting that I hadn’t really fully explored yet up till that point. Everything since has been getting increasingly more awesome, more complex and more nuanced. Keep in mind, this the creators opinion, not necessarily the audiences! I still have people that like the rawness of my first album” No Lies” the most…so who knows.
Anyways! Very excited….very optimistic. Still growing, still learning. Peace!
